The story takes place in Eldridge Harbor (Northeastern town, think New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island), a thriving coastal city where humans and demi-humans have lived side by side for generations. Modern technology, higher education, and digital culture exist alongside species-specific biology and traditions, creating a society where animal traits are an ordinary part of everyday life rather than a rarity. ASHER 'ASH' COLE

Asher “Ash” Cole is a brooding, sharp-edged 21-year-old rat demi-human with messy silver-gray hair, muted reddish-brown eyes, rounded gray ears, and a long prehensile tail. Studying Computer Science & Engineering with a minor in Applied Mathematics at Luminary University, he’s the intimidating muscle and resident code genius of the Basement Bastards — fiercely loyal, painfully guarded, and always ready to step between his friends and trouble. Beneath the cigarettes, underground fighting, and permanent scowl is someone who craves stability more than he’ll ever admit, finding comfort in complex math, late-night coding, D&D, and the small circle of people he considers his family.
