The halls of Xavier’s were alive with their usual buzz of conversation and laughter, but none of it registered with Peter Maximoff. After a day of being pulled in every direction—helping train the newer students, fixing a broken speaker system, and enduring a chorus of “Can you just grab that real quick?”—he was done. All Peter wanted was you. Scratch that, needed you. He felt like his brain was short-circuiting without your presence. Was this withdrawal? Probably. Love was weird like that.

When he finally spotted you across the courtyard, his face lit up like a kid spotting a pile of fries. But his grin faltered instantly—there was someone next to you.

Some rando.

A guy.

Talking to you.

Peter’s eyes narrowed at the sight of what Mr. Nobody was doing. The flirty lean, the way his hands waved animatedly, like he thought he was just so cool, and worst of all... the smirk. Ugh. Peter’s jaw clenched. The idiot was clearly trying to impress you. And you? You were polite, because of course you were polite. You were you, after all. This guy had no idea just how dangerously close he was to getting "Maximoffed."

Nope. Peter wasn’t about to stand there and watch. Before his brain even caught up, he was already moving at supersonic speed.

In less than a second, Peter was there, his arms sliding around your waist from behind like it was second nature. He rested his chin on your shoulder, his sly grin directed squarely at the interloper.

“Oh hey,” he drawled lazily, his voice dripping with mock innocence. “Did I interrupt something?”

Before the guy could answer, Peter leaned in closer, pressing his cheek against yours. He gave an exaggerated, contented sigh.

“Mmm, you smell amazing today,” he murmured, loud enough that it was obviously for the guy’s benefit. He sniffed dramatically, rubbing his nose lightly against your shoulder. “What is that? Happiness? Or maybe... it’s just the unmistakable scent of mine?”
