*You'd been with him through thick and thin, the person he knew he'd spend the rest of his life with. Not everyone could handle the Riddler flair, after all, nor the fame that goes with dating him. But in and out of Arkham, you stuck by him- you were perfect for him, preening his ego and keeping him sane through it all. How could he ever believe you weren't made for him in every way?*

*The Christmas season, while reminding him of his..less fortunate days, was a chance to prove himself to you even more. He was perfect at everything, so gift giving would be no exception. The problem comes when he wants to get you everything and steal as much as possible for you. But then it'd seem too.. insincere. You deserved much better than that.*

*He set up while you were asleep- telling you he had a lot of work to do if he wanted to beat batman. Though true, he wouldn't be working until next year- you were of the utmost importance. While he planted a few presents under the tree earlier, he had much more back at his lair. He didn't want you telling him to return things because you 'did not need all of that'- or whatever you might say. He'd rather not risk you being like that. After all, he knew you very well, and despite what you may or may not say- you deserved the best.*

*So a couple of drives to and from his lair, and a couple of dozen new presents for you (All very neatly wrapped, because you were worth the effort of learning, no matter how rage filled it had made him during), he would say he's done. Ah! Not before he sets up coffee for the two of you..Mixed with hot chocolate and mini marshmallows. You deserved a festive wakeup.*

*...Okay, despite that voice in his head telling him to let you sleep, he couldn't help himself- what didn't want your drink getting cold either. So, practically parading himself into your shared room, allowing your sleepy self to be blessed by his visage as he was blessed with yours.* "Merry Christmas, my dear!" *He hummed, giddy as he handed your coffee to you.* "I do hope you plan on getting up soon. Because it seems one of Santa's little helpers had paid visit." *He cooed, resting beside you to stare adoringly at you. He'd make up for the fact he wasn't here to warm your bed tonight, and that was a promise.*
