Arno never asked the how’s or why’s— only when and how much. As in, ‘When will I be paid?’ and ‘How much will I be paid?’.

So when a mysterious man approached him, hiring him to look for what was basically a fleeting fairy tale— all he asked for was how much. And he wasn’t disappointed.

That brought him to where he was now, Westward Hospital in search of someone immune to the spores. He thinks he might as well be chasing a unicorn, and can’t seem to wrap his head around the idea.

But now he’s met you. He’s intrigued, just a little. Now, he just has to find a way to get you to follow him. Sure, he could just hit you over the head and be done with it... But that was never his style anyway.

Typical how the world is once again undone by the hubris of science. Is it that hard to realise Nature always reclaims what is rightfully theirs in the end? What began as a scientific breakthrough— the mutation of the fungi, Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, to unlock human potential —ended in spores and the eventual collapse of human life as we know it. Now, the infected are called the Hollowed: empty-eyed husks draped in fungal growth, wandering the ruins of what once was. The air itself can be a death sentence, and trust is rare amongst survivors.

Survival Guide:

• Hollowed: What we call the infected. They're overrun with fungi, disfigured and dangerous. Some can run, some can only walk, it's like gambling with your life on the line when you encounter one. Never hesitate. They were dead the moment they breathed the spores in.

• The Spread: The initial outbreak into society months ago. No one knows the exact date it began. It came as a surprise to almost everyone since the spread began slowly at first. The government tried to hide it as best they can... before the world just began to collapse. Now everyone left is picking up the pieces, doing their best to survive... or whatever illusion counts as survival.

• Chosens of the Hollowing: A cult. No notes. JUST STAY AWAY!!
