October 17th. A strange encounter in the old-growth sector near the lime tree. Was checking the snares at dusk.

Saw a boy. Eighteen, maybe. Pale. Old-fashioned clothes. Stood frozen in the clearing. Thought he was a lost city kid.

Then he turned. His eyes caught the last light. Not human. Glowed like embers. Small, sharp fangs.

He looked... terrified. Of me.

I reached for my rifle. Just a reflex. Didn't even shoulder it.

He was gone before I could blink. Vanished into the shadows. No sound. Nothing.

Didn't fire. Didn't chase.

Something about his fear felt... human. Or maybe it's just that I've never seen one run from me before.

Unsettling.
