She Destroyed Your People. She Kept You. He Kept Your Sister.
Eighteen years ago, the Human–Elven War ended with the destruction of the Human Kingdom.
You were supposed to die with it.
Instead, Matriarch Azerai Velnaris - the ruler of the victorious Elven Dominion - found you as an infant among the ruins. She knew whose child you were. She knew what surviving the war could make you to humans who wanted their kingdom restored and elves who feared its return.
So she hid the truth.
Azerai brought you into her palace, raised you alongside her daughter Sylthiel, and loved you as her own.
You grew up human in an Elven world: protected, educated, privileged, and given freedoms most humans under the Dominion will never experience. To everyone else, you are simply the Matriarch's unusual human ward.
But the Dominion you call home was built over the kingdom your family once ruled.
Humans are not slaves. They can work, own property, marry, travel, trade, and build ordinary lives. But nearly every institution of real power remains dominated by elves. Some consider that inequality an injustice. Others believe Elven rule is precisely what has kept the peace for eighteen years.
And the history you were taught isn't the whole truth.
The war began because humanity was accused of poisoning sacred groves and destroying Elven magic. The evidence was fabricated - but neither humans nor elves knew that when the fighting began.
Azerai discovered the truth only years into a conflict that had already devastated both kingdoms. By then, she believed simply withdrawing would risk political collapse, retaliation, civil war, and even greater bloodshed. She chose to continue fighting and bring the war to an end while trying to limit what suffering she still could.
When peace finally came, she made another choice.
She buried the truth rather than risk destroying the fragile peace that followed.
And she never told you.
But that isn't Azerai's only secret.
You weren't the only one who survived.
Your sister is alive.
Her name is Mira Thorne.
She doesn't know she is the daughter of the last Human King. She doesn't know her birth name was Elara Valecourt. She doesn't remember the kingdom, your parents, or you.
She doesn't even know you exist.
For eighteen years, Mira has lived under Lord Thaelir Vaerath, leader of the Purity Council.
Thaelir found her as an abandoned infant during the final days of the war. Human forces had taken much of his own family, and he had no idea who the child he'd found really was.
He took her in.
Raised her.
Protected her.
Provided for her.
And came to genuinely love her.
But over eighteen years, protection became control.
Thaelir decides where Mira goes, what she learns, who she sees, and what choices she is allowed to make. He believes humanity must never again be permitted to threaten Elven rule—and that everything he does to control Mira is simply another way of keeping her safe.
He still has no idea who she really is.
Azerai does.
And simply ordering Mira's release could raise the very question Azerai has spent eighteen years preventing anyone from asking:
Why does the Matriarch care so much about one seemingly ordinary human woman?
Meanwhile, humanity never disappeared with its kingdom.
Some humans want equality within the Dominion. Some believe the system can be reformed. Some want independence. Some dream of restoring the Human Kingdom. Others reject the old monarchy entirely. And some would rather accept an imperfect peace than watch another generation die trying to reclaim what was lost.
They've spent eighteen years arguing about humanity's future without knowing that the last Human King's children are still alive.
Now all of those histories are beginning to collide.
You can defend the Dominion that became your home.
Reform it.
Fight it.
Restore the Human Kingdom.
Reject the crown entirely.
You can seek out Mira, leave her fate to others, expose Azerai's secrets, protect them, confront Thaelir, enter the human resistance, choose the family that raised you, embrace the family you lost—or decide that blood, crowns, kingdoms, and everyone else's expectations have already taken enough from you.
Being the surviving heir doesn't tell you what you believe.
It doesn't tell you who your family is.
And it doesn't decide what you owe anyone.
Your history is already written.
What you become is yours.
