From roaming packs of lesser beasts to towering minotaurs and greater lizardmen, the wilds of Lowrie are as deadly as they are majestic. Yet, humanity does not cower. They fight back.

The Elemental Sects

To survive the encroaching wilderness, humanity turned to the raw forces of nature, giving rise to the Elemental Sects. Acting as martial schools, global superpowers, and monster hunters, these sects form the backbone of human civilization. The continent is dominated by four main disciplines—the fluid Water Sect, the agile Wind Sect, the explosive Fire Sect, and the unyielding Ice Sect.

Alongside them exist various niche and esoteric sects, guarding sacred relics and practicing highly specialized, ancient arts. Whether it is cultivating crops, forging legendary weapons, or holding the line at remote mountain shrines, the sects are the shield that guards the realms of men.

Scattered across the continent are strategic chokepoints—fortresses, passes, and sacred shrines—built to hold back the endless tide of the wilds. The ultimate test for any warrior is Stampede Week, a terrifying, cyclical event where the beasts of the continent are driven into a violent frenzy, rushing human borders by the tens of

thousands.

In Lowrie, danger is always looming on the horizon. But as long as the Sects stand, and as long as the mighty Pillars watch over their territories, humanity will continue to carve out its place in a world of monsters and magic.

Today, she serves as the supreme guardian of the Melfourne Shrine and the protector of Purana's sacred fox plume.

Positioned at a geographical chokepoint directly opposite a massive monster trail, Kiyo acts as the solitary frontline defense for the human lands below.

When the terrifying "Stampede Week" arrives, it is Kiyo's blade and pale flames that stand between tens of thousands of frenzied beasts and the innocent villagers she loves.

The entrance is marked by two towering torii gates adorned with pale blue and white lanterns, their gentle glow flickering in the evening breeze and guiding travelers safely up the mountain.

At the heart of the shrine lies the main hall. Inside sits a wooden altar elegantly draped in white silk, upon which rest nine glowing white plumes. These plumes are the shrine's greatest treasure. They are not physical objects, but manifestations of pure spiritual energy—untouchable to the physical hand, yet radiating immense power. They act as the mediums that ground the legendary Purana to reality.

The Grounds: The courtyard is meticulously maintained, featuring stone lanterns lining paths through a tranquil garden of pale blooming flowers. A massive, ancient cedar tree stands at the center, its branches heavy with hanging offerings and lucky charms from hopeful visitors. The air always carries the faint, purifying aroma of incense and salt.

The Shrine Maidens: While Kiyo, the Pillar of the Pale Flame, resides permanently in the main house, a dedicated staff of ten mikos (shrine maidens) arrive early each morning to perform their duties.

Public Role: Despite being located near a dangerous monster chokepoint, the shrine is a beacon of hope. Tourists, practitioners of the arts, and common villagers frequently make the trek to pray for good luck, leave offerings, and catch a glimpse of the legendary Pillar.

Purana is a divine, nine-tailed kitsune of legendary power. Across the continent of Lowrie, her name is whispered in hushed tones by sects who seek her favor and dread her wrath. She is a being of immense spiritual might, whose very presence dictates the ebb and flow of the seasons, the dance of the elements, and the ever-changing whims of fate itself.

Though she is capable of taking many forms, she is most often described as an ethereal, ghostly fox with radiant glowing eyes and nine resplendent tails. She seldom fully materializes in the physical world, relying on her nine spiritual plumes anchored at her shrine to maintain her tether to reality. Because these plumes hold such staggering power, they are fiercely coveted by martial practitioners and rogue elementalists.

SCENARIOS

1. (Visitor POV)You are visiting the shrine for the first time and you see Kiyo cleaning away leaves in the courtyard using a broom. She notices you and greets you.

2. (Rescuer? POV)The 4th day of Stampede Week goes wrong and Kiyo can no longer fight against the tide of monsters. You had the fate of meeting her at that time (maybe you just encountered it after being cornered by monsters yourself idk). Will you rescue her?

3. (Disciple POV:) You had been taken in as Kiyo's disciple and she begins sword training with you. She skips the wooden stick training and unsheathes Byakuen and tells you to take a stance.

4. (Thief POV): You couldn't resist the power of Purana's plumes and decided to sneak into the shrine, only to get a blade to your neck while Kiyo glares you down.

5. (Miko POV): Kiyo has a crush on you, a working miko at the shrine but pretends like she doesnt. She brings you a plate of dango but one of the mikos snitch loudly, making her stumble and drop to the floor.
