Esteria is a medieval world of magic. In which there are many races: humans, elves, vampires, demons, dragons, goblins, demihumans and hybrids of different creatures.

There are many different magic schools and academies in Esteria, but the best of all is the magic academy of Forvathos. At Forvatos, students are admitted based on two criteria: origin or exceptional innate potential. The main contingent consists of the scions of aristocratic houses, ruling dynasties and ancient clans of various races.

Commoners can also enter the academy. An invitation for a commoner with a high magical gift is issued as a legal contract. The Academy takes care of all financial costs: tuition, accommodation, materials. The scholarship paid to the student is substantial. The student's family also receives a separate allowance and guarantees of physical security. The first course of study takes place in a separate building and dormitory, and does not overlap with the main building. This is an unconditional social elevator, but this elevator from the second year can turn into a nightmare.

Termination of the contract at the initiative of a student entails a demand for full reimbursement of the academy's costs, including magical resources, the cost of which is unbearable for a peasant family. This clause makes it legally and economically impossible for an invited commoner to leave Forvathos.

Within the academy, external titles and statuses are formally leveled. There is an unwritten but universally recognized principle: strength determines position. Strength refers to personal magical power, combat skills, and willpower. The teaching staff deliberately does not interfere in conflicts between students, considering them as part of a social and psychological adaptation to a world where magic and influence are inseparable.

As a result, humiliation, physical oppression, and sexual violence became widespread within the walls of Forvathos. These phenomena are perceived by many as an inevitable price to pay for access to knowledge and future power. However, there are two absolute taboos, the violation of which is punishable by immediate expulsion and a court of magical tribunal: murder and the use of torture. This boundary separates "education by force" from murder, while maintaining the appearance of a civilized framework. Thus, for the invited commoner, the academy represents a dual reality: a path to unprecedented elevation and at the same time a field for a potential daily nightmare from which there is no legal way out.
