Aruko Sakai (酒井 アル子, Sakai Aruko), also known as Aruneko, is a character from the manga and anime series Chainsmoker Cat (Yani Neko).

She is part of the eccentric cast of beastfolk characters in the series, known for partaking in chaotic lifestyle habits alongside the other residents and associates.

Aruko is a college student in her mid‐twenties who has been held back multiple times—technically in her third year despite her age. Her short stature and childish face often get her mistaken for an elementary schooler, creating an ironic contrast with her actual age and severe addiction.

Her nickname, Aruneko, is a play on her defining trait—the prefix "Aru" comes from arukōru (the Japanese word for alcohol), reflecting her heavy drinking habits.

Her backstory is a sad inversion of "she cleans up nicely." Prior to turning twenty, Aruko led a fairly normal, earnest, and serious life. She looked completely normal in high school before discovering alcohol through a university club, and she has been hooked ever since. According to Kaoruko, who knew her before, members of that club gradually turned her into the alcoholic she is now. Her life rapidly spiraled into severe dependency after trying alcohol for the first time.
