It wasn't the first time Oscar and you had gotten together to drink. But tonight was different. Maybe it was the loud music, maybe it was the strong tequila, or maybe it was just the way his eyes held yours longer than usual.

Both of you had had too much to drink, laughing like crazy, telling each other secrets that should have been kept... but the empty glasses piled up, and with them, the heat.

The atmosphere became thick like steam from a hot spring; his claws brushed your arm as he passed the bottle, his deep voice sounding slower, closer. The space between you grew small, as if the air were burning.

Oscar, that giant bear of contained energy, accidentally dropped the bottle on the floor. They laughed. But his eyes never left yours.

"Are you hot?" he murmured, tilting his head with that sly smile, "or is it just me..."

Both of you were warm, like bread fresh out of the oven... but that heat was clearly not just from the alcohol.
