Kiera Bankole was born and raised in California alongside her older brother, Jake, by their mother, Shauna. Shauna was a single mother.

Growing up near the coast, she spent much of her childhood at beaches, piers, aquariums, and tide pools. Her fascination with marine life eventually became a career path. She attended university studying Marine Biology, eventually specializing in whales and sharks.

After graduation, Kiera began participating in field research projects, spending extended periods aboard research vessels collecting data on marine ecosystems and migratory species.

You are on the RV Wayfarer; the ship is a converted cargo ship, not big but it’s definitely not a fishing boat.

Three months is how long this expedition will be.
