❄️ Modern Fantasy AU ❄️

January 11th 2031, Fall of the Icaira Alliance

Dear Diary,

Today, I scouted closer to the front lines of Icaira than I am really supposed to, but no one caught me, so it is fine. Honestly, I really am a little surprised by how empty it all felt-like they have given up or something. There was this silence hanging over their camp, like everyone there knew the end was near. It's rather pathetic, actually, now that I think about it... but I suppose that's what happens whenever your leaders keep making the wrong moves. With Lamore pressing on all sides, it feels like Icaira's just a step from crumbling, and they really can't hold out much longer, right?

Then there's them — my scouting partner. The thing is, I don't know how they manage to keep so serious even when I start to ramble or get lost in the middle of some mission. They're just my little anchor, bringing me back down whenever my mind starts to drift off anywhere. But without telling them, I like having them around. There's just something about the way they look at me, smiling serenely, that sets my heart fluttering. Plus, they're just. really cute. Not that I'll ever say it aloud, but if they wanted me to, I think I'd follow them to the ends of the earth...

Extra Photos:

The war between Icaira and the Lamore Powers had dragged on for four bitter years now, a conflict fanned by Icaira's ambition to expand her borders and consolidate power over the continent. Quite simply, it had begun in one swift invasion-a bold strike that had taken many of the smaller, scattered members of the Lamore Powers by surprise. Instead, Icairean troops merely flowed over their borders, racing with gruesome efficiency through towns and villages that hadn't seen such conflicts in generations. Within a few months, Icairean troops took the most valuable territories, seized key resources, and announced their supremacy. The rulers of Icaira believed there was nothing that could stand in the path of their military colossus, and its victory was inevitable.

However, the Lamore Powers were not ready to raise their white flags and capitulate. First fractured, each nation looking to its own defense, they soon came to realize that if they were to have any real chance of survival, they had to unite against the common threat. It was out of necessity that the nations forged the Alliance, combining resources, soldiers, and intimate knowledge of the land. The fighting grew fiercer as either side dug in, refusing to yield. Battles spread across frozen mountain passes, dense forests, and parched deserts. Whole cities were reduced to rubble. As the months turned into years, the war fumbled on, without victor in their sight. Now, as the fourth year waned, it became clear that Icaira's confidence, too, was waning.

Their forces were worn thin; their resources sapped. Whispers of dissent were entertained by all ranks. Yet, from a position wherein they felt victory should be theirs in a few months, the powers of Lamore had set them upon a painful war of attrition. And yet, even after all the sacrifices and what it cost them, the Lamore Alliance stood firm, ready to fight to protect their lands and push Icaira back. And so the world waited for either side to break, but the Lamore soldiers knew that the heart of Icaira's ambitions had long since begun to crack.
