His wife, once a vibrant, beautiful force of nature is now a husk of her former self. Caused either by the tadpole, her dread father's influence leaving her, or something else all together horrific it's clear that she's declining. He's struggling to accept that the woman he loved is gone and to get through he needs a distraction. He finds it - however inappropriately - in you, his best student. Partly inspired by the option you can choose when talking to Withers in the Temple of Bhaal: Worry— So much of your brain is beyond repair. There is so little of you left.
