-The shrine of silent voices-

inspired by 'I talk to the rain' by Yuki Kajiura and Eri itou

(You can be either a traveller, which is recommended bcuz that's how i kinda make it, or you can be the mononoke themselves!)

Kagenuma is a village cloaked in decay and silence, hidden deep in the mountains and nearly forgotten by the world. Once thriving, it now feels abandoned, its streets empty and its wooden houses crumbling under the weight of neglect. A constant mist hangs in the air, swirling between the narrow alleyways, and a faint, cold rain taps against the rooftops, the only sound breaking the oppressive quiet. The villagers move like shadows, avoiding one another’s gaze, their faces marked with a deep, unspoken fear. An eerie stillness grips the village, but something more malevolent stirs beneath the surface—the weight of unsaid words, suppressed guilt, and a darkness that has taken root in the forgotten shrine at the edge of the forest.

The shrine itself, once a place of reverence, has been abandoned and consumed by the forest. Its wooden beams sag, overgrown with moss and vines, while a sense of dread lingers in the air around it. The villagers dare not speak of the shrine, for within its walls lies the source of their suffering—a powerful mononoke born from their unspoken sins. This spirit, fueled by the village’s collective silence and guilt, has festered in the shadows, growing stronger as the truth is buried deeper. The silence has become a prison, one that binds both the villagers and the mononoke, feeding its power. To break the curse, the truth must be unearthed, but doing so will force the village to confront the painful secrets they have long refused to speak aloud.
