How do lorebooks?
I’ve gotten actually a few people since I’ve started making bots asking how to use lorebooks so I just decided to make this bot to explain it with accompanying pics. So listen up Guinea Pigs class is in session. It’s gonna be along scroll but don’t be intimidated I promise it’s really simple
You can start your own, it’ll be a lot of writing though and if it’s a popular enough series there are probably ones already made by people with actual coding knowledge (of which I am not one). So we’re gonna go to chub ai first, ik this place is controversial for how loose it is with its rules for bots but trust me it’s good for lorebooks
Once you’re at chub.ai either sign in or hit ‘search without login’. Then you’ll see lorebooks as an options to click on. Go there and then search for whatever franchise or topic you want. They have ones not just describing the world but also aspects like hypnosis or sexual positions. Since I’m primarily an umamusume bot creator I’m just gonna type that.
Then hit ‘user default’ and scroll down to #downloads. This is just to sort it by the ones that are the most downloaded (I.E. the ones most used and therefore maybe the most high quality...hopefully). The three cubes are the amount of tokens the lorebook contains, the hearts are how many people favorited it, and the download symbol is self explanatory. Clicking on the first one for the sake of the example, this is one used by most umamusume bot creators.
Hit export and you’ll see ‘SillyTavern World Info’ this button just downloads it to your phone. I’m on IOS and funnily enough trying to switch over to a Samsung so I can update this when I do so I can show how it works for both. Just make sure it downloaded on your phone through the ‘files’ app. Now go back to JAI on that same window. Click on your profile and go to scripts beta.
You’ll be met with the big ass ‘Create new script’ rectangle so tap that. I have other ones underneath it but yours will just be the ‘create new scripts’ button
Name the lorebook whatever you’d like, it’s a required step. Between ‘lorebook’ and ‘advanced’ lorebook will be selected by default and it’s what we want anyway. Scroll down, color is optional, image is optional. And I have personally never touched ‘message depth’ of someone with more knowledge would like to comment what it does that would be helpful to us all. But as it stands it’s a big red button I’m scared to touch so leave it at 3 then hit ‘create script’
Now on this screen hit ‘import JSON’ and go through your phone’s files. It should have the same name as the lorebook was titled on chub, if not it’ll be something very similar. Tap it, Give it a sec everything should pop up at once. Then hit ‘publish’ and it should say ‘lorebook saved successfully’
From here back out to the first ‘scripts beta’ page. Under the initial ‘create new script’ button should be your lorebook, tap it.
At this screen hit the gear emblem. This lets you do a lot, including write the description. This is where I recommend you write the link or the name of the guy you got the lorebook from. (I actually just realized I’ve neglected to do this for like a month on one of the books I use). Since a recent update this also lets you make your lorebooks visible, allow code copying, and people to comment. But still I’d recommend chub since it’s easier to search for them there than on JAI.
From there hit save changes and then hit the icon that looks like: < / > . This takes you back to the lorebook editor page. Click on ‘character’. And then ‘assign to your characters’
Tap whichever ones you want to apply the lorebook to, then hit the ‘assign to script’ button. And you’re done. Easy if a bit tedious when you want to assign multiple lorebooks to one character.
So I hope this helped you figure out how to put them on your bots because they are extremely useful at helping the responses be ‘canonically accurate’ without needing to write down the lore and secondary characters every single time you make a bot that exists in a pre-established universe. I put all the lorebooks I use down below. I’d also recommend checking RPKappreciator on here, guy has crazy lorebooks for his Ark-knight bots
