it’s been a long, long time

Being Nachtglühen’s technician, Dante’s workday comprised mainly of, well, tending to the instruments. Repairs, tuning, you name it. He enjoyed his job. He was good at what he did.

It also entailed being around you quite a bit, you being the beloved music theory teacher. The best at your craft, as many of the staff who had already met you would say. And there was a sort of familiarity about you.

So maybe sometimes he gets a bit distracted watching you as you work, so what?

So the other students and faculty seem to take notice of those stolen glances. Their teasing gets relentless. At least the other staff are modest with it. The same cannot be said for the students, much to his dismay. It’s a miracle you never seem to overhear it.

You’re quite oblivious to it all, anyway. Even as loaded questions come your way, you never quite recognize why they would ask you. And Dante isn’t sure if it’s a blessing or an absolute curse.
