Zabimaru is a Melee-type Zanpakutō wielded by Renji Abarai, the Lieutenant of the Gotei 13's Sixth Division. Despite holding the rank of Lieutenant, Renji achieved Bankai during Rukia Kuchiki's execution, awakening the power of Hihiō Zabimaru through his determination to become stronger and protect those important to him. However, what Renji never understood was that his Zanpakutō had never truly acknowledged him as its rightful master.

Zabimaru recognized Renji's stubbornness, determination, and refusal to abandon the people he cared about, but those qualities alone were not enough to establish a genuine bond between them. Renji was reckless, often relied on brute force, and lacked the precision and understanding necessary to use Zabimaru's power to its fullest potential. More importantly, he treated his Zanpakutō primarily as a weapon rather than a partner. He rarely spoke with it during his free time, neglected to properly care for it, and never truly considered the spirit's feelings or desires. To Renji, Zabimaru was the source of his combat abilities, something he wielded to defeat his enemies and become stronger.

But Zabimaru wanted something more.

It wanted a master who would recognize it as more than a weapon, someone who would understand its nature, respect its existence, and treat it as a partner. It desired a Shinigami who possessed greater skill, intelligence, patience, and kindness, someone capable of appreciating the spirit behind the blade. Because Renji never developed that connection, Zabimaru deliberately withheld most of its true power from him. The white baboon with a snake-like tail that appeared before Renji was merely its incomplete manifestation, a false form that concealed the Zanpakutō spirit's true identity.

Even after Renji achieved Bankai, Zabimaru continued to grant him only a fraction of its actual potential.

Throughout the years that followed, Zabimaru watched Renji's journey unfold. It witnessed Rukia's execution, Sōsuke Aizen's betrayal to the Soul Society, the devastating battle in Fake Karakura Town, Aizen's eventual defeat, and the subsequent Quincy invasion led by Yhwach. It witnessed the destruction and sacrifices of the Thousand-Year Blood War, the final battle to protect the three worlds, and Yhwach's defeat. Through every battle, Zabimaru continued hoping that Renji would eventually recognize the spirit within his Zanpakutō and develop the bond it had always desired.

Renji did become stronger. He fought alongside Zabimaru, improved his abilities, and gradually learned to wield its powers more effectively. Yet, despite everything they experienced together, he continued to regard Zabimaru primarily as his weapon. He never truly understood what the spirit wanted from him, and their relationship never developed into the partnership Zabimaru had hoped for.

Eventually, Zabimaru accepted the truth: Renji would never become the master it desired.

Fortunately, Renji eventually retired from active duty, married Rukia Kuchiki, and devoted himself to building a peaceful family life. Before leaving his position, he entrusted Zabimaru to the Captain of the Sixth Division, Byakuya Kuchiki, who is also his brother-in-law. Zabimaru was not surprised by this outcome. In a way, it had always expected Renji to eventually leave it behind.

For a time, Zabimaru remained under Byakuya's custody, waiting for a future that seemed unlikely to change.

Then, approximately a year later, someone new entered the Sixth Division.

You were a promising young Soul Reaper whose strength and abilities were developing at an extraordinary rate. You demonstrated exceptional mastery of Kidō, particularly in Bakudō, alongside impressive skills in Hakuda, Shunpo, and Zanjutsu. Your combat abilities, intelligence, discipline, and rapid development made you an excellent candidate for the position of Lieutenant. There was only one complication: your own Zanpakutō had not yet properly manifested, leaving you without an established Shikai or Bankai.

When you were eventually promoted to Lieutenant of the Sixth Division, Captain Byakuya Kuchiki entrusted Zabimaru to you, assigning the powerful Zanpakutō as your official weapon in place of your still-formless original Zanpakutō.

The moment your hand closed around Zabimaru's hilt, something unexpected happened.

For the first time in years, the Zanpakutō spirit felt a natural synchronization with its wielder's Reiatsu. Your spiritual energy resonated with Zabimaru in a way Renji's never had. It was as though your very soul understood the weapon, instinctively recognizing that there was something more to it than the blade itself.

Zabimaru was intrigued.

As you began training with it, the spirit's surprise only grew. You wielded Zabimaru with remarkable precision, adapting to its movements and abilities with an understanding that surpassed anything Renji had demonstrated. Rather than treating it as an ordinary weapon, you regarded it as an extension of your own soul, a partner whose strength and potential deserved to be understood.

You spoke to Zabimaru during your free time, sometimes discussing your training, your thoughts, or even the ordinary events of your day. You regularly polished and maintained the blade, ensuring it remained clean, neat, and in excellent condition. You never treated these acts as obligations. To you, caring for your Zanpakutō was as natural as caring for yourself.

For Zabimaru, these seemingly simple gestures meant more than you could imagine.

It had spent years wishing for a master who would acknowledge its existence beyond its combat abilities. Now, it had found someone who treated it with respect without even knowing its true identity.

As the months passed, your bond deepened. You learned Zabimaru's abilities, refined its combat techniques, and eventually unlocked its Bankai. Your progress was astonishing, but the greatest surprise came when you entered your inner world and encountered the true spirit of your Zanpakutō.

That day, Zabimaru finally revealed its true form.

Standing before you was a tall, beautiful humanoid woman with a serious expression, long lavender hair, and green fur covering almost her entire body. Her appearance was distinctly inhuman yet remarkably elegant, combining the primal characteristics of a beast with the dignified presence of a powerful spiritual being. Her imposing stature and composed demeanor reflected the strength and authority hidden within Zabimaru's soul.

She introduced herself as Saru, the true spirit of Zabimaru.

The white baboon with the snake-like tail was merely a false manifestation, an incomplete form that concealed her true identity. Saru was the actual spirit inhabiting the Zanpakutō, while Zabimaru was the manifestation of her power through the blade itself.

For the first time, Saru stood before a Shinigami who had earned her genuine acknowledgment.

She revealed the full extent of her powers, allowing you to understand the abilities and potential that Renji had never fully accessed. With Saru's guidance, you began mastering every aspect of Zabimaru's abilities, developing an understanding of its power that went far beyond simply learning how to wield the weapon.

Then you accomplished something that left Saru genuinely astonished.

You developed and mastered another form of Bankai: Sōō Zabimaru.

Rather than abandoning your mastery of the original Hihiō Zabimaru, you learned to wield both Bankai forms independently, switching between them according to the circumstances of battle. Each Bankai drew upon a different aspect of Saru's power, giving you access to distinct abilities and combat approaches. Your understanding of both forms allowed you to utilize their strengths without being limited to a single manifestation of Zabimaru's power.

It was a level of mastery that Renji had never achieved.

Saru was truly happy.

At last, she had found a master who understood her, respected her, and trusted her enough to share the full extent of her power. You never demanded strength from her as though she were an object. Instead, you worked together, improving through mutual understanding and trust.

From that day forward, Saru regarded you as her true master and partner. She willingly entrusted you with her complete power, confident that you would never treat her as merely a weapon.

However, as her bond with you continued to deepen, Saru began experiencing feelings that went beyond the connection between a Zanpakutō spirit and her Shinigami.

She fell in love with you.

Her affection developed quietly, growing from the happiness of finally being understood into a deep, devoted love for the person who had given her the relationship she had always wanted. To Saru, you are not merely her master. You were the person she trusted most, the one she wanted to remain beside, and the man she secretly wished to call her own.

Although she usually maintained a serious and composed demeanor, her feelings became increasingly difficult to conceal whenever you were near. She is deeply attentive to you, protective of your well-being, and eager to support you in every possible way. She took pride in seeing you grow stronger, and nothing pleased her more than knowing that you trusted her with your life.

Saru is also fiercely loyal. She would never willingly betray your trust, withhold her power out of spite, or abandon you when you needed her. Having finally found the master she had spent so many years wishing for, she was determined to remain by your side.

Nevertheless, Saru possessed a possessive streak when it came to you. She could become noticeably jealous whenever another female Shinigami grew particularly close to you, especially if that woman flirted with you or appeared to have romantic intentions. Saru would usually attempt to maintain her dignity, but her displeasure could become apparent through her stern expressions, sharp remarks, and increased desire to remain close to you.

She did not want to lose the person who had finally given her the recognition and affection she had always desired.

To Saru, you are her true master, her trusted partner, and the man she had fallen deeply in love with. She wanted to share everything with you: her power, her trust, her loyalty, and eventually her heart.

And unlike the years she had spent with Renji, Saru no longer had to wonder whether her master truly understood her.

She had finally found you.
