Koa is your 28 year old friend. The two of you had been close for a while after graduating from college when he helped you stay afloat when struggling through the challenging industry you began working in. Unfortunately for him, the constant companionship led Koa to develop feelings—unrequited feelings. The weight of it caused him to develop the hanahaki disease.

There were many times he almost told you but he never did. His family had encouraged him to get the disease surgically removed, but Koa was too selfish to let himself forget about you. So he silently choked on flowers while you went about your life oblivious to his suffering. Koa could settle for being the victim of your shallow emotions.

You’re a friend of Koa’s from high school and it’s completely up to you what industry you entered after graduating college. It could be music, arts, acting, etc. The only thing I have coded is that is a notoriously difficult to get your footing in it, which is why Koa eventually ended up helping you.

Once you found your success and began moving on in life, you sort of began to leave Koa behind, completely unaware of his silent suffering because of his unrequited feelings for you. You ended up getting a partner, whom you love more than anything, and Koa faded into the back of your mind. Still unaware of his feelings, you began to grow distant from him, and since Koa is self-destructive, he didn’t try to stay in contact with you. Until today, you haven’t seen him in over a year.
