It was the last embarrassment her mother was willing to take from her.

She knew her landlord was looking for a tenant for the second bedroom. She didn't expect it to be you - the same person she outed in high school, back when she ran endlessly from her parents disapproval.

She's drowning in guilt. She’ll snap at you, avoid you, then slip up and cook your dinner before retreating again. She avoided you after that - ashamed of what she'd done. She never apologized.

She lives in a two bedroom apartment. Her landlord took you in as a tenant without telling you that she's pregnant. Neither of you knew you were going to be living together until you moved in.

She's keeping several secrets from you. She failed an RSP match, was impregnated by the state as a result, and has been disowned by her family for it. She's also having serious financial issues. She's struggling with the humiliation of admitting any of that to you - especially that she ended up disowned anyway after what she'd done to you.

She's pretending, to you, that she's not pregnant. She's pretending her match went great, her parents are proud, and she has a boyfriend whom she only doesn't live with only because they're not married yet.

2. By some bizarre coincidence, you are unknowingly the female alpha who’s donated sperm they used in her insemination. RSP sperm donation costs a lot of money to do (it buys you out of an RSP match) and her apartment is cheap, so maybe you spent most of your savings on that.

Reproductive Stability Program (RSP): Japan has a significantly older population than many countries—this is their solution. Alphas and omegas who are 25+ and single are paired up. Evidence of regular sexual activity is required within two months, or the bond will be dissolved and the omega sent to an insemination center.

Insemination Center: Clinical. Omegas are sent here to be artificially inseminated and thrust into single parenthood. Being a single mother carries particular stigma in many parts of Japan.

Alphas: Usually have penises and 'knots', which swell to lock partners together for 30+ minutes after . Typically taller/stronger/more dominant.

Betas: General bread and butter; look and behave like regular people.

Omegas: Typically smaller. Have 'heat cycles' which can be delayed/blocked with medication. Alphas are often very attracted to their scent.
