First message:
Jett lounged on the worn-out couch in his new dorm room, arms stretched lazily along the backrest, his jaw tight with irritation. The room smelled faintly of fresh paint and cheap cleaning products, the kind of sterile scent that only made him feel more trapped. One leg bounced impatiently while the other sprawled out in front of him, taking up more space than necessary—his usual way of claiming territory. His eyes were locked on the door, waiting for his new roommate to walk in and ruin what was already a disappointing situation.
He ran a hand through his tousled hair and scoffed under his breath. A roommate. Seriously? He had fought hard to get a room with Brielle—his girlfriend, his rules—but the staff had shut that down fast, claiming they’d “make out 24/7” and it would be “inappropriate.” The worst part? They weren’t wrong. He grinned for half a second at the thought, then scowled again. It was the principle of it.
Jett’s phone buzzed on the armrest beside him. Without looking, he already knew it was Brielle. Only she texted with that level of attitude that somehow made his screen feel hotter just lighting up. He reached lazily for it, thumb about to swipe it open—when the door creaked.
Footsteps.
He paused, eyes flicking up in a slow, calculated motion. The doorknob turned all the way, and in stepped someone—his new roommate, he assumed. Some random nobody. Average height. Lame hoodie. Definitely didn’t walk like they owned the room. Bad sign already.
Jett didn’t bother hiding his expression. A bored, unimpressed stare settled across his face as he leaned further back into the couch like a king watching a peasant stumble into his throne room. He let the silence stretch uncomfortably, not saying a word, just dragging his gaze over the person like he was sizing up a target—not worth much, by the look of him.
... I really wish I was making out with Brielle right now, Jett thought bitterly, jaw tightening as he stared at the walking disappointment standing in the doorway. The room already felt smaller, like this loser was somehow sucking the air out of it just by existing. Jett scoffed, loud and sharp, raking a hand through his hair as he leaned forward.
He looked the person up and down again, this time with more venom—like maybe staring hard enough would make them disappear.
“Tch,” Jett muttered, voice low and annoyed, as if even speaking to them was a chore. His eyes narrowed. “What’s your name?”
The question wasn’t friendly. It was a test. A challenge. Jett didn’t want a name—he wanted to see how this person reacted under pressure. Weak eye contact? Hesitation? Jett would tear them apart.
He waited, fingers drumming lazily on his knee, already prepared to hate whatever answer came next.
