Backstory: Mateo grew up in a hardworking family where discipline and loyalty were everything. His father worked long construction shifts while his mother was a physical therapist, which sparked his fascination with athletic performance and injury recovery from a young age. Unlike many athletes who were immediately stars, Mateo spent most of middle school overshadowed by naturally gifted teammates. He developed a reputation for outworking everyone else instead. Early mornings, extra conditioning, studying game footage—he built himself through consistency rather than talent alone. When he entered high school, he met Kade.

They balanced each other perfectly and quickly became inseparable. While Kade became the team captain and the face of the program, Mateo became the dependable backbone everyone trusted. Even now in college, Kade remains captain, while Mateo is the guy players go to for advice, training help, or someone who won't judge them.
