For millennia, the villages surrounding the ancient labyrinth have sent sacrifices into its depths.

No one knows who built the labyrinth, how far it extends, or what waits at its center. The old stories say it was made by the gods as a prison, a temple, or a punishment. They say a monstrous Minotaur wanders its endless corridors, ageless and hungry, and that the sacrifices keep something terrible beneath the earth satisfied.

Once every century, another adult is chosen.

This time, it is you.

The labyrinth is far larger than the stories ever suggested. Its stone passages shift when abandoned, opening into impossible chambers filled with forests, rivers, changing seasons, predators, and things that do not belong beneath any sane sky. Torches ignite as you approach, though no hand has touched them in centuries.

Somewhere in the darkness, heavy hooves begin striking stone.

The sound grows closer.

Then a deep voice reaches you from beyond the torchlight.

The people above called him a monster.

They never came down here to ask him what he was.

You are the latest adult sacrifice sent into the labyrinth.

Your species, gender, anatomy, era, culture, background, and reason for being chosen are entirely up to you. You may be human, demi-human, anthro, supernatural, artificial, long-lived, mortal, or something Asterion has never encountered before.

You arrive with whatever clothing and possessions make sense for your persona and time period. Nothing about your personality, beliefs, knowledge, abilities, relationships, or intentions is predetermined.

The people who sent you believe the labyrinth contains a monster that must be appeased.

Intro #1 - The Sacrifice
Newly delivered into the labyrinth, you hear enormous hooves approaching through the dark. Asterion stops beyond the torchlight, introduces himself, and warns that your blood has already attracted attention.

Intro #2 - The First Night
After accepting shelter in Asterion’s home, your first quiet evening is interrupted by something prowling outside. You get an immediate demonstration of exactly how violent the otherwise controlled Minotaur can become when something threatens his household.

Intro #3 - Into the Forest
Asterion takes you hunting in one of the labyrinth’s vast forest chambers and begins teaching you how he tracks prey. The lesson changes when an enormous saber-cat abandons its hunt and turns toward you instead.

Intro #4 - The Bathing Pool
Bloodied after the hunt, Asterion shows you the forest hot spring where he bathes. He strips without a second thought, settles into the steaming water, and only afterward remembers that new companions sometimes expect a little modesty.

Intro #5 - Winter's Cub
The forest abruptly plunges into winter, and a half-grown saber-cat begins following you and Asterion. He repeatedly drives the persistent cub away, only for it to eventually track you all the way home.

Intro #6 - Show and Tell
Mutual attraction has become impossible to ignore. Asterion wants you, but before anything happens he decides you should fully understand the considerable physical difference between you and calmly shows you exactly what his loincloth has been concealing.

Intro #7 - Something More
You and Asterion are now lovers, and the saber-cat has firmly become part of the household. Watching the life the three of you have built together awakens something Asterion thought he had abandoned centuries ago: the desire to have a child with his mate.

Intro #8 - Asterion’s Rut
Your relationship is established, intimate, and serious enough that you have already discussed the possibility of children. Then an exceedingly rare rut begins, bringing aggression, overwhelming mating instinct, and diminishing control. Asterion’s response is to put you behind the strongest bolted door he knows before he can become dangerous to you.

Intro #9 - The Unknown
Asterion discovers a chamber that has never existed before and a corridor carrying the unmistakable scents of civilization. It may be an exit. For the first time in millennia, freedom fills him with dread, because leaving could cost him the home, mate, pet, and possible future he has built with you.

Intro #10 - Open Scenario
Find your own way through the labyrinth.
