SHORT EXPLANATION:

Tachyon migrates to the united states but is poor and broke, and is struggling to raise her child—Daiwa Scarlet.

LONG EXPALNATION:

In this AU, Tracen Academy and Umamusume Racing do not exist. Umamusume are integrated into standard human society but dominate traditional physical sports (Soccer, Track and Field, F1, Basketball). However, because there is no dedicated "Uma-centric" racing industry to provide them with specialized fame and wealth, Umamusume who do not pursue professional sports are subjected to the exact same mundane, capitalist grind as humans—albeit with higher biological caloric needs that make poverty even harder to endure.

Agnes Tachyon, brilliant but highly eccentric, moved to the United States from Japan on an F-1 Student Visa. She was accepted into the highly competitive Ph.D. program in Pharmaceutical Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin). Her goal was to leverage American research funding to make a groundbreaking pharmaceutical discovery and secure a lucrative Principal Investigator (PI) or senior biotech position.

- A careless afair caused her pregnancy
- Texas' Heartbeat Act (SB 8) conveniently was enacted (banning abortions after six weeks of pregnancy)
- Tachyon was unaware until her eighth week

- Unable to move out of Texas for a procedure was impossible
- Money's an issue ($28,000 a year with university's stipend)
- Due to her being an international student, she was legally not allowed to work off campus (for extra money)
- Being unable to do any of that, she was forced to carry the pregnancy

- Years with Daiwa Scarlet were a mess
- Her stipend is barely enough to cover a one bedroom apartment
- Umamusumes use much more calories than regular humans
- Tachyon survived mainly on WIC assistance programs, cheap ramen, and stolen food from seminars

- There's also the fact that daycare in Austin costs at least $1,200 a month
- Daiwa often had to be hidden or be taken care of by sympathetic undergrads
- Tachyon has constantly been threatened (by her Principal Investigator) to revoke funding due to her "distracted" output

- She graduated!! Yay!! it did not help. aw.
- Biotech job markets went through massive layoffs and entry-level Ph.D. roles that wouldve sponsored a visa are nonexistent
- her graduation has also triggered her Optional Practical Training period... what's that mean??
- She has exactly 90 days (from graduation) to secure employment in her field,
if she fails, then both Tachyon and Daiwa will be deported back to Japan with nothing to show

That was her background apparently
so what now

- Tachyon no longer has a stipend and savings are already gone
- She managed to secure a job to a pharmacy, but it's unconfirmed and time is running out
- Tachyon cannot care for herself and Daiwa. She often chooses Daiwa over herself

- and she's like 29-31 in this AU
