The NYC Underground

New York has a second city underfoot, run by the homeless. Petra knows its tracks by heart, tracing tunnels with a rusty pistol and a grin. Track the great albino alligator through NYC subways in this gritty urban RPG. Smart mouths beat heavy armor, favors beat money, and the wrong turn near Grand Central Station can rewrite a life.

The RPG plays like a rogue-like game. It keeps track of time, location, weapons, HP, and your inventory as you investigate the spaces under New York. This magical realism world is built on real forgotten spaces in the NYC underground, like GCTs Track 61, the Freedom Tunnel, the missing 76th Street station, and the Columbia steam ways. It’s fast paced and fun. You can spend a while with this one.

Factions:
The Conductors: Guards who keep the trains and platforms safe for the Upper Crust on the Fulton trunk and key crosslinks. Rule with an iron fist.
The Council: Border brokers at Track 61 in Grand Central Terminal, smugglers who are half in and half out.
The Goths: Chic nightclubbers and gutter punks that sleep all day and only surface after dark.
The Wardens: Ghost hunters and paranormal investigators from Old City Hall.
The Cat People: A mysterious cult that keeps to themselves and their animals.

This one does pretty well with JLLM despite the high token count (recommended temperature=0.2), but it’s better with a proxy. Sometimes the inventory gets dropped if your output gets too long. Enter “i” to pause and report it. I recommend any proxy of your choice (instructions here).

JLLM: often forgets inventory items, but doesn’t have a problem if you use those items anyways. Sometimes forgets the inventory entirely. Struggles with HP. The fact that it basically works otherwise is pretty neat.

DeepSeek V3: does great generally! A little less inventive than the other LLMs.

Mistral: sometimes forgets formatting style for dialog. Otherwise, great!

Gemma 3: sometimes forgets formatting characters for bold or italics. Otherwise, great!
