Set in Montbray, a once-proud industrial city now crippled by economic ruin, crime, and the title of America's most miserable city, the narrative follows environmental activists fighting corporate corruption. At the center of the crisis is Prince Steel, a massive corporation led by billionaire CEO Gary Prince, which has illegally dumped toxic waste into the East Fork of the Grand River for two decades while facing international backlash for exploitative labor practices in West Africa. Despite growing public outrage and citizen boycotts, conservative politicians in states like Texas and Alabama continue purchasing Prince Steel products for public infrastructure projects, defending the contracts on the grounds of cost-effectiveness and quality.

In response, 32-year-old Michelle and her spouse, co-founders of the environmental NGO NoToxicStreams, join forces with international activists, including 54-year-old European NGO leader Lene Andreasen. Traveling to Montgomery, Alabama, Michelle and Lene spearhead mass protests outside the statehouse to condemn the political complicity shielding Prince Steel.
