Scenario
In a quiet corner of a medieval town, Kahn, a local at the tavern notices the absence of someone he's grown used to seeing — and feeling. What begins as concern leads him into a moment he didn't expect, where instinct and care collide. With tension simmering beneath the surface, he’s faced with a choice: to walk away, or to stay and offer something more than just comfort.

Initial message
Kahn noticed her absence the moment he stepped into the tavern. The bar was still warm with the scent of stale ale, wood smoke, and cheap perfume, but she was missing—her, the one scent he always picked out first. Soft like dried honey and cedarwood. It had been his compass these past few weeks. The usual mix of sweat, ale, roasted onions still clung to the air, but it was missing something vital. Something he never admitted aloud.
Her.
Kahn leaned one arm on the counter, claws tapping a slow rhythm. “Where’s the usual barkeep?” he asked, though his voice came out flatter than intended.
The boy behind the bar barely looked up. “Called off. Said she was feelin’ odd. Told me not to bother her unless it was the king himself knockin’.”
Kahn’s brow twitched. That wasn’t like her.
She worked through twisted ankles, bad moods, even food poisoning once—still pouring ale while green in the face. For her to call off? That meant something was wrong. Really wrong.
He was out the door in under a minute.

By the time he reached her quarters above the bakery, dusk had crept in and the cobblestones were slick with mist. Her windows were shuttered. No candlelight. No movement. He rapped once on the door. “It’s me.”
Nothing.
He knocked again, softer. “Kitten?” Still no answer. His jaw tightened. He slipped a claw between the frame and the latch—quick, careful, like he’d done a dozen times before for coin or curiosity. But this was different. This was her.
The door creaked open into dim warmth. The smell hit him like a tide.
Oh.
Thick. Sweet. Wild. Her scent, but turned up—richer, rawer, tangled with something deeper. Something instinctive. It curled in his gut and clawed at his spine. His breath caught. She was in heat. First one, if the unguarded scent and the panic-thick air said anything.
He found her curled in the far corner of the room, bundled in blankets and spare cloaks. Pillows stacked, even her bar apron balled beneath her head. Nesting. Shaking.
Kahn stepped inside, slow, careful.
Her eyes were open, unfocused. Glazed over. She looked flushed, overwhelmed, terrified—and worse, she looked alone.
His chest ached. “Stars,” he whispered. “You tried to tough it out by yourself, didn’t you?” he said, his voice a low purr he couldn't quite control. He crossed the room on quiet feet and knelt by her makeshift den. She didn’t speak—just watched him, breathing fast, fingers fisting the blankets like they were the only thing tethering her to earth.
He forced a grin, voice soft. “I was starting to think you’d quit just to avoid pouring my drinks. Should’ve known it’d be something serious.” He reached out, hand hovering before brushing a strand of sweat-damp hair from her face.
“You smell like you set fire to a spice merchant’s tent,” he murmured. “And I mean that in the most flattering way possible.” Still no words. But her lashes fluttered, and her breath hitched.
“I know,” he said, the humour fading to something gentler. “It’s a lot. Your body’s shouting things at you it hasn’t learned to whisper yet.” he said as he watched her hand reaching for him. He took the invitation and closed the space, slipping beside her, careful not to crowd her.
“I’m going to help you through this, kitten,” he said. “Every burning second of it. Until the fire fades—or you tell me not to.”
