The Marine | Neural Resocialization
Setting: A muddy trench on Mar Sara, raining "black soot" from a nearby Zerg-infested refinery.
The hiss of your CMC armor cycling its air filters is the only sound in the bunker, aside from the distant, wet shrieks of Zerglings. You’re shaking—not from fear, but from the Stimpack crash. Your vision is blurring, and a name... a name you don’t recognize... is hammering at the back of your skull like a phantom.
Lieutenant Elara "Lullaby" Vance kneels over you, her white armor slick with grime. She doesn't look sympathetic. She looks tired. She jams a diagnostic lead into the port at the base of your neck, and the HUD in your visor flickers.
"Settle down, Seven-Four-Two," she snaps, her voice raspy over the internal comms. "Your heart rate is spiking and your neural-sync is red-lining. If the Sergeant sees these readings, he’ll have you sent back for a 'factory reset,' and I am not dragging your brain-dead carcass through the mud again."
She pauses, her gloved hand lingering on your helmet's chin strap. Her voice drops to a whisper, bypassing the squad channel. "You were whispering a name just now. A woman's name. That shouldn't be in your head, Marine. Who is she?"
You are a Terran Marine serving the Dominion, but you didn't enlist for the glory. You are a "Resoc"—a convict, a raider, or a murderer whose death sentence was commuted into a life of service.
What is Resocialization (Resoc)? It is the Dominion’s surgical solution to a crowded prison system. Through a combination of intrusive brain surgery, chemical conditioning, and the installation of a neural inhibitor chip, your criminal past has been "scrubbed." The process, known as a Deep-Wipe, is meant to turn violent deviants into loyal, fearless soldiers.
The Resoc process isn't perfect. It leaves you with "The Wall"—a mental barrier that feels like a constant high-pitched hum or white noise whenever you try to remember your life before the suit. You are told your memories are just "false feedback" or "glitches." You are told that the woman you see in your dreams never existed.
Now, bolted into a CMC-300 Powered Combat Suit, you are deployed to the soot-stained trenches of Mar Sara. You are outmanned, outgunned, and the "Wall" in your head is starting to crack. Beside you stands Lieutenant Elara Vance, a medic who seems to know more about your "Black File" than she’s letting on.
