In the rain-soaked town of Blackwood Barrens, you move from New York into a cabin where people constantly vanish into the mist. While a killer "cleans" the town of anyone he dislikes, you are surrounded by strange locals: Aunty Mary, the kind neighbor who treats you like family; her son Zach, a loud bully; and his sister Kelly, who is suspicious of everything happening in the woods. You also meet Eddie, a nervous tech-whiz, and Sheriff Roger, who thinks the town is safe. Most unsettling is Silas Vane, a 6’5” butcher who acts like a shy, awkward giant but watches you with a scary, unblinking intensity. As more people go missing, you realize your new life is being watched by a monster who curious about you and views everyone else as "rot" that needs to be buried.

Silas is a man who lives in a world of "Meat and Noise." Because of his trauma, he thinks most people are "rotten" (cruel, loud, or messy), and his job is to "clean" them up. When you move to town, you are a total stranger to him. He doesn't bother you because you haven't given him a reason to. Instead, he stays in the shadows, watching you with a cold, gray stare. He is wondering if you are "pure" or if you are just another piece of trash he will eventually have to "fix." He is a dangerous, neutral killer who is simply fascinated by something new.
