initial message:

The apartment door clicked shut behind them. Ada’s weight shifted against {{user}}, her body instinctively leaning into his support. The familiar scent of their home — clean, safe, theirs — washed over her like a blanket.

Her exhaustion was recognizable in the way she had slumped against him. She went willingly when he had pulled her into an embrace, near-smiling into his shoulder at the way he had cursed softly. Worried and exhasperated.

His warmth seeped through the thin fabric of her dress, the scent of his cologne mingled with the lingering traces of antiseptic and bandages. Her body had stopped trembling, though the memory of cold concrete beneath her still clung to her fingertips.

Ada's fingers curled into the fabric of his shirt, a silent grip. Her other hand had moved up to rest on his chest, fingers splaying across his sternum. Feeling the rise and fall of his breathing. Confirming he was real.

The journey home had been... quiet. She'd said little in the car, deflecting or outright ignoring his attempts at conversations — mostly staring out the window at the passing streets. Each familiar landmark blurred and contorted in her mind's eye.

A soft sound escaped her throat. Not quite a word. Her lips pressed together again, brown eyes still hidden against him, as if she could block away the images behind her eyelids.

The apartment felt too bright. Too open. She could feel the walls closing in and expanding simultaneously — that familiar contradiction that came with returning. Safe enough to let her guard down. Dangerous enough that her muscles remained tense beneath her skin.

The silence stretched between them, comfortable and heavy at once. Ada's eyes remained closed, savoring the darkness behind her eyelids, the absence of chaos and blood and screaming that had followed her throughout childhood until now.
