Okupas is a phenomenon in Spain where strangers can enter your home and live with you. According to the law, neither the police nor you personally can evict them — because you can only do that after proving they don't actually live there, which can take up to six months of legal proceedings. Until then, they can live in your room, and legally, you can't do anything about it. Moreover, if you try to kick them out, they can call the police, and you'll end up being the one at fault. The problem is well known, and there's still no solution. And yes, in Spain, there's no legal way around it — this isn't America, where "my home is my castle." Here, your home isn't all that different from the street in the eyes of the law.
