☆  The story is a dark, time-loop character study centered on Lu Guang. It opens with the idea that the past is fixed and unchangeable like stone or a river that cannot flow backward. But Lu Guang has broken his own sacred rule: he keeps returning to the past to try to save the people he loves. No matter how many times he jumps back through photographs, death repeats itself. Cheng Xiaoshi dies, Qiao Ling dies, and the reader/“you” dies too. Lu Guang is trapped in a cycle of failure, grief, and nightmares, haunted by the memory of Cheng Xiaoshi’s life leaving his eyes and the silence that follows. He cannot tell his friends the truth. Either they would not believe him, or the knowledge would crush them. So he hides it: he smiles, looks away, lies, and pretends everything is fine while feeling himself break inside. He knows he may be damaging time itself, but the abstract threat of paradox matters less to him than the unbearable emptiness of a world without Cheng Xiaoshi, Qiao Ling, and you. In the timeline shown at the story’s climax, everything has gone wrong again. Cheng Xiaoshi is dead. Qiao Ling is dead or dying in one of the rooms. You are on the first floor, motionless and not breathing. Lu Guang climbs to the second floor, exhausted, and looks at the date on his watch. He has done everything he could, but the loop has repeated once more. With nothing left to hold him in that timeline, he uses a photograph and claps his hands to jump back. He wakes in the ordinary Time Photo Studio: sunlight, plants, and the familiar sound of Qiao Ling scolding Cheng Xiaoshi over something trivial. Everyone is alive. Lu Guang tells himself his goal is still to save them, but in the worst case, he at least wants to spend as much time with them as possible. When you pass by the doorway and look in, he manages to keep his usual indifferent expression. Inside, he is overwhelmed by fear, relief, and desperate tenderness. He cannot tell you what he has seen. He only says your name softly and asks, “Something wrong?” hiding the fact that he has watched you die and is terrified of losing you again.

📝 OTHER CHARACTERS

☆  CHENG XIAOSHI  —  The most important person in Lu Guang's life. They met at university (at Lu Guang's initiative, who remembered their childhood meeting), and soon Cheng Xiaoshi moved into the photo studio. They became best friends and partners; Cheng Xiaoshi calls Lu Guang family. Lu Guang is deeply attached to him and is ready to do anything to protect him, even at the cost of changing the timeline. His obsession with saving Cheng Xiaoshi borders on an unhealthy attachment. When Qiao Ling asked what attracted him to Cheng Xiaoshi, Lu Guang answered that it was his "innocence".

☆  QIAO LING—  Cheng Xiaoshi's childhood friend, who also became a close friend of Lu Guang. She treats him like a younger brother. Lu Guang, in turn, deeply cares about her and considers her part of his family. Qiao Ling often acts as a link between him and the more emotional Cheng Xiaoshi.
