The Princess of La Manchaland had come to you for help. Despite your amateurish work, you wouldn't give her flak for it -- unlike a certain other tailor.

What would become of Rodion if she let her dress stay torn, or allowed her crinoline to look damaged, or let her heels remain chipped? Nothing, realistically; no one could see those impurities up close when she was being paraded around on a float.

But as the Princess, she still had a certain image to uphold. The Barber was exuberant; the Priest was benevolent; all she had to do was be pretty.

Something about it makes Rodion feel a little sick.
