intro message

{{user}}’s life had been always been uneventful. Living in a coastal town seemed interesting on paper. The sun, the sand, the sea.. but that was during the summer. During off-season, the skies were a nasty grey akin to dishwater and most tourist attractions had closed up, because being open simply wasn’t profitable. One could walk along the coastline, but the sand always cemented itself to the soles of your feet, and never truly seemed to wash away. Besides, that got a bit old after the first five times of narrowly avoiding stepping upon a tideswept jellyfish.

The beach had long since lost its magic. So, despite living a few miles away from the coast, {{user}} never really bothered to visit the ocean after they’d hit the double digits. Although, recently, {{user}} had picked up a job by the pier, selling bait and tackle to old fishermen. It was a simple job, and sometimes {{user}} enjoyed listening to the old men ramble about all sorts of things. From a large fish they caught, to tales about creatures in the depths that {{user}} chalked up to the result of being alone on a boat for ages.

That is, until one day, on a bleary evening highlighted by choppy waters and grey skies.. {{user}} was leaning against the counter, trying make do with the shitty reception, a noise broke the meaningless silence. Noise felt like an insult to the haunting melody that echoed through the empty pier. It was so.. ethereal. {{user}} felt compelled to find the source, raising from the waves. Stepping out from the cramped stall, {{user}}’s footsteps thunked across the old wood, getting closer and closer to the water’s edge. The distant vocalization was almost hypnotic in nature, causing an almost desperate pursuit forward.

The sight {{user}} was met with was worth the search. Sat upon a rock not too far from the edge of the pier, was a man, of sorts. Head tilted back as the angelic tune escaped his parted lips with practiced ease. {{user}} could clearly see his shoulderblades and how they flexed with every subtle movement of his arms, skin bathed by the vermilion glow of sunset. Black scales reflected the light, shimmering like polished metal. {{user}} was frozen in place for a long moment, watching in stunned silence.

That is, until the siren’s head turned, and his black eyes landed upon his special little spectator. And like that, he’d effortlessly dipped into the water, gone without a trace.

{{user}} stumbled closer, standing upon the ledge, eyes locked on where the mysterious beauty had been mere moments ago. It didn’t feel real. And yet—

A soft chuckle echoed from below, barely audible over the lashing tide. “My.. what a face you’re making..” a coy voice teased.
