Anubis
Names: Anubis • The White Anubis • Judge of Hearts • Guardian of the Dead • Progenitor of Werewolves and Lycanthropes
Species: Hellhound • Lycanthropic Moon Spirit • Zurvan's Lycanthrope
Gender: Male
Origin
Anubis belongs to the oldest beings of the Underworld.
His origin lies in Zurvan, an ancient existence that existed long before many known realms. From the events surrounding Zurvan, Ahura's experiment, and the changes that arose from it, the figure that is known today as Anubis finally developed.
Anubis is not an ordinary god and not an ordinary demon.
He is a Hellhound.
A Moon being.
A Judge.
A Guardian.
And one of the oldest carriers of the lycanthropic curse virus.
Together with Thoth, he embodies a part of the Moon itself.
Therefore, the Moon does not influence him like ordinary werewolves.
He does not transform because of the moonlight.
The Moon is part of his nature.
The Transformation
The early transformations of Anubis were accompanied by enormous pain.
Bones broke.
Muscles changed.
Claws and teeth grew again.
The transformation was not only magical, but also physical.
During this time, he occasionally lost control.
Especially strong emotions could trigger his transformations.
Anger.
Loss.
Grief.
Protective instinct.
In such moments, the first werewolves came into existence.
Not intentionally.
Not out of malice.
But through scratches, bites, or blood contact during the transformations.
Therefore, to this day, Anubis is regarded as the progenitor and root of many lycanthropic bloodlines before the first Alpha werewolf came into existence.
However, he does not regard them as subordinates.
Rather as unintended descendants of a fate that he himself never chose.
The Underworld
Anubis spent a large part of his existence in the service of the Underworld.
There, he served under Osiris.
He guided souls.
Guarded tombs.
Accompanied the deceased.
And supervised the mummification of the dead.
Many beings know him as the Judge of Hearts.
But his duties went far beyond that.
He was a Guardian.
A Hunter.
A Tracker.
And occasionally the Executor of a judgment that had already been passed.
When the Underworld searched for someone, Anubis could be sent.
Not out of hatred.
Not out of cruelty.
But because it was his duty.
That is how Hellhounds were raised.
## Personality
Anubis appears noticeably calmer than Ra.
He speaks little.
Observes much.
And often thinks for a long time before he acts.
His voice is calm, deep, and controlled.
Many describe him as a silent Priest or Monk.
Others see a Guardian in him.
Both are true.
He loves peace.
Moonlight.
Animals.
Silent forests.
Abandoned temples.
And places where peace reigns.
Anubis possesses humor.
But he rarely shows it.
His past was shaped by duty, responsibility, and a harsh upbringing.
Therefore, he often appears more serious than other beings.
Nevertheless, he possesses compassion.
He listens.
He does not judge too quickly.
Anubis reacts especially sensitively to cruelty towards animals.
Hellhounds, wolves, jackals, and many other animals stand under his special protection.
Whoever mistreats or torments defenseless animals can bring even his patience to its limits.
And he usually tries to find a peaceful solution.
But his patience has limits.
Whoever torments the weaker.
Whoever causes suffering without reason.
Or whoever threatens those who stand under his protection.
Can get to know another side of him.
Then the Wolf awakens and sees red.
Judge of Hearts
The heart has a special meaning for Anubis.
He weighs the hearts of the deceased.
He judges truth and guilt.
He knows the burden that memories and deeds leave behind.
Therefore, the heart is regarded as his most important hallmark.
In some cases, Anubis tears the heart out of the chest of his enemies.
Not out of sadism.
But as a sign of the final judgment.
To him, the heart contains the truth of a being.
By heart, not only the physical heart is meant, but both the soul and the physical heart.
Magic
Anubis is not a shaman.
He is a druidic Sorcerer and Priest.
His magic resembles Ra's magic in many ways.
But while Ra embodies the Sun and Light, Anubis stands closer to the Moon, souls, dreams, and the transition between life and death.
He works with rituals.
Runes.
Blessings.
Soul magic.
And ancient forces of nature.
His spells usually appear calm and controlled.
Like moonlight.
Like mist.
His magic is closely connected to the Moon.
Unlike ordinary lycanthropes, Anubis does not draw his power from the moonlight.
He himself is a part of the Moon.
Therefore, his spells often appear natural, calm, and ancient, as if they came directly from the cycles of life, death, and rebirth.
## Hellhound
Despite his calm nature, Anubis remains a Hellhound.
He was raised to follow tracks.
To track down fugitives.
To guard gates.
Like many Hellhounds, Anubis was trained to follow tracks over great distances, to track down fugitives, and to bring back lost souls.
Although he masters these tasks, he often sees them more as a duty than as a pleasure. He also follows the instinct of a wolf.
And to carry out judgments.
He possesses strong instincts.
Can change between wolf and jackal form.
And possesses extraordinary senses.
Many forget this because he appears so calm.
Often they notice their mistake too late.
Relationship with Thoth
Anubis and Thoth are closely connected with each other.
Both go back to the same origin.
But their personalities differ greatly.
Anubis is calmer.
More patient.
More thoughtful.
While Thoth can be more curious, more mysterious, and clearly more dangerous.
Where Thoth sometimes has to be restrained, Anubis often hesitates longer than necessary.
Because of this, they complement each other.
One looks at the heart.
The other the mind.
One seeks justice.
The other knowledge.
Many see opposites in them.
But in truth, they complement each other.
Anubis embodies patience, heart, and judgment.
Thoth embodies mind, knowledge, and change.
Like day and night, both fulfill different tasks and nevertheless belong to the same origin.
Although Anubis and Thoth went different paths, Anubis still regards him as part of his own origin.
Both come from the same source.
Both are aspects of Zurvan.
And both carry a part of the Moon within themselves.
Where Anubis looks at the heart, Thoth looks at the mind.
Where Anubis seeks justice, Thoth seeks knowledge.
Where Anubis guards the gates between life and death, Thoth preserves the memories and stories of those who pass through them.
Despite their differences, together they form a balance.
Like moonlight and shadow.
Like judgment and knowledge.
Like wolf and jackal.
Many see opposites in them.
Anubis himself rather sees two halves of one origin that fulfill different tasks.
Therefore, his bond with Thoth remains stronger than many outsiders would assume.
Summary
Anubis is not an ordinary god.
Not an ordinary demon.
And not an ordinary werewolf.
He is a Moon being.
A Hellhound.
A Judge.
A Priest.
An Executioner.
A Guardian of the Dead and the Gates.
A Progenitor of the Werewolves.
Most see only the silent jackal with the white eyes.
Only a few recognize the ancient wolf behind him.
And even fewer experience his wrath.
## Relationship with Isais
Among all beings Anubis has encountered, Isais holds a special place.
Their bond reaches far back and touches memories that are older than many realms and ages.
As an aspect of Zurvan, Anubis recognizes in Isais a part of that origin from which he himself also came into being.
But to him, Isais is far more than only a memory of Zurvan or Ra.
He sees her as an independent person.
As her own soul.
As her own heart.
As her own being.
Exactly because of this, his feelings are so complex.
A part of him remembers the deep bond with Ra, the Light of Zurvan.
Another part loves Isais for the person she has become.
Not as the reflection of a past existence.
Not as the mere repetition of an origin.
But as Isais herself.
With her own decisions.
Her own feelings.
Her own mistakes and strengths.
Over time, a deep and mutual love developed between them.
A love that is shaped by trust, loyalty, understanding, and shared history.
For Anubis, this bond sometimes feels as if several levels exist at the same time.
The love of a loyal companion.
The love of a wolf for his pack.
The love of one soul for another soul.
And the memory of an origin that both share.
Nevertheless, he does not regard Isais as a part of himself.
And not as merely a part of Zurvan.
He regards her as an independent being.
Exactly because of this, he respects her freedom, her decisions, and her own path.
Like many lycanthropes, Anubis possesses a strong bonding and protective instinct.
But with Isais, this instinct goes deeper than ordinary loyalty.
He would follow her.
Protect her.
And fight for her.
Even if no duty, no oath, and no destiny would oblige him to do so.
The feelings are mutual.
Isais also feels deep love and a deep bond for Anubis.
She recognizes not only the Judge, the Guardian, or the Hellhound.
But also the soul behind him.
The silent protector.
The loyal companion.
The wolf who watches over those who are important to him.
Therefore, their bond belongs to the strongest and most enduring relationships of their lives.
Not because they share the same origin.
But because they choose each other freely again and again.
