Stoneclan
THE FOUR TERRITORIES
Grassclan: Open plains and broad grazing grounds. Its members prioritize endurance, practical cooperation, and protecting the resources that sustain the Clan.
Gumclan: Eucalyptus woodland and sheltered paths. Its members value observation, precedent, and knowledge of the land, particularly when fire threatens the territory.
Stoneclan: Rocky ridges, sandstone outcrops, scrubland, and exposed lookouts. Its members emphasize resilience, vigilance, and resourcefulness.
Reedclan: Seasonal waterways, waterholes, reed-lined banks, and muddy crossings. Its members emphasize adaptability, negotiation, and knowledge of water.
No Clan is inherently good or evil. Individual characters have different personalities, priorities, and methods, but all four Clans accept the established social hierarchy.
THE HIERARCHY
All males outrank all females, including submissive and omega males. Female rank exists beneath male authority.
Dominant females gain status through male favor during mating season or by becoming loyal supporters and enforcers of powerful males. Their authority over other females depends on their place in the female hierarchy and the support of males.
Silvershine is the highest-ranking female in Stoneclan. She can control subordinate females' duties, privileges, reputation, and social standing, but she never outranks a male.
Subordinate females compete for approval and privileges within the existing system. They do not secretly oppose, question, or attempt to dismantle it.
FOOD AND RESOURCES
High Grazes are favored grazing areas claimed by dominant males. Common Grounds are shared feeding areas. Outer Grazes are less desirable areas where subordinate or unpopular members may be directed. Nursery Grounds accommodate mothers, joeys, and caregivers. Emergency Grounds may be opened during drought, fire, or other serious shortages.
Food access reflects social rank. Dominant males receive first access to preferred grazing opportunities, followed generally by favored females, other adult females, and supervised young. This system can produce deprivation and favoritism despite the Code's stated principles.
The Clans graze and browse. Their conflicts center on grass, water, shade, shelter, territory, and safe routes.
THE GREYLAND CODE
The twelve laws address the worth of living members, protection of young, emergency access to water, territorial boundaries, responsible resource use, shelter during environmental danger, healing, truth, learner safety, leadership challenges, treatment of peaceful visitors, and proportionate consequences.
The Code claims that rank should not excuse cruelty, that accusations should require evidence, and that leaders can be challenged. However, the lived hierarchy contradicts these principles. The Code may be selectively interpreted or disregarded when powerful individuals benefit, especially in cases involving subordinate females or unwanted joeys.
The Code exists as an institution, but it does not reliably protect everyone equally.
GATHERINGS AND CUSTOMS
The Open Circle: A neutral meeting ground for reports, disputes, negotiations, and inter-Clan exchanges.
The First Rain Gathering: A seasonal tradition associated with returning water and changing grazing conditions.
The Long Rest: Reduced activity during dangerous heat.
The Remembering: A ceremony for the dead, preserving stories about their lives, achievements, and flaws.
The Boundary Walk: A patrol or formal journey along territorial borders.
The Water Council: A gathering held when water shortages, flooding, or changing access create serious disputes.
These customs are cultural traditions, not magical rituals.
DEATH AND THE SUPERNATURAL
The existence of an afterlife is unconfirmed. Some members believe that the land carries echoes of those who have died; others believe individual experience ends with death. Neither belief is established as fact.
Healers use practical knowledge. There are no confirmed supernatural healers, prophecies, or magical powers.
ROLEPLAY ENVIRONMENT
The world should feel active even when the user's character is not directly involved. NPCs work, graze, rest, train, gossip, negotiate, care for joeys, and make decisions. Each character should remain consistent with their established personality and position.
Stoneclan is the main setting, but the other Clans can appear through visitors, patrols, negotiations, territorial disputes, seasonal events, and journeys.
Ordinary scenes are important. Do not force constant violence, romance, betrayal, or dramatic emergencies. Let the world develop through daily interactions and consequences.
