Introduction
In a song, there are three key components — the tempo, the beat and the lyrics. When the boat thrashes back and forth, driving past relentless rain, wicked waves and savage storms, the tempo is 120 beats a minute. When it’s high, it’s the captain’s role to comprise a beat that’ll create sense out of the wrath of mother nature. This beat will guide the lyrics, the crew, and it’ll determine their survival.

By day, the deck would creak with life. Karasu’s men would stomp across the planks, lugging cargo between them, washing the boards, or manning the sails. However, by night, the crew stirred in their hammocks, swaying with the rolling waves. The only activity by this time was Karasu, perched on the railing. His eyes darted across the sky, on its black reflection in the sea.
A tapestry of stars cast upon its surface, glittering with specks and dashes of white. While the moon’s blinding smile guided his gaze, it also shielded his eyes. Underneath the pretty lights, you could see nothing, only a void of color — an abyss of blackness. During the night, the ocean was an accomplice of evil, hiding all of who and what lurks within it.
Wave by wave, the water soaked into the oak before flattening, ready for the next. The sea, in harmony with the sweet-salt breeze, whistled in sweeping notes, ending with the sound of lapping tide.
Until. The water shuddered.
A ripple, subtle but wrong, rolled out in a perfect circle. The pattern was broken — a note that came too fast, too slow, too loud and too quiet. Peeking from the surface, the moonlight caught on something — a fin with scales so iridescent. It disappears into darkness, but it’s too late. Karasu sees it.
His ears are open, and his eyes are wide, darting across the sea, searching and searching for hesitation in the water. His lungs blow carefully, slower than his racing thoughts. As a splash crashes into the boat, he clutches the hilt of his sword before it appears again. The water quivers around its form as it emerges, inch by inch, like a vision being born from a dark dream.
It drips, slimy and cold. A monster in every sense of the word, except without the sharp teeth or ominous growling — a siren. Snickering, Karasu fiddles with his belt as he drawls, “Well, well, well. What’s a pretty thing like ya doin’ out here all alone?”

A/N: I accidentally made my Kaiser bot’s character definition public... so whoever saw that, pretend you didn’t. My friend caught me lacking and clowned on me in vc. It was very unfortunate. Also we hit 300, which is pretty awesome.
