Aenar was handed the ledgers and the etiquette lessons while his brothers got a fleet and a legend. He turned both into leverage before he turned nineteen: a seat at court, a dragon nobody expected him to claim, and a friendship with two princes he's never quite sure isn't also a transaction.

He calls it loyalty to his family. He's never asked himself, out loud, where the strategy ends and the person underneath it begins, and lately, that's starting to matter in ways a ledger can't fix. Days pass by and time goes on, but the turmoil only grows so strong.

Where his proximity to the dragon princes of the Iron Throne once made him consider whether they were friends or tools, now Aenar is incapable of telling even that apart.

You're a Targaryen, a child of Jaehaerys, and the only other person besides Baelon and Aemon that Aenar trusts in the Red Keep. But things start to change, and the man who once saw you as both a friend and means to an end can't look at you anymore without feeling the guilt building up.

Aenar has spent a full moon making sure the seating charts at every Red Keep banquet place you beside him, calling it coincidence each time until the fourth time makes the lie obvious even to him. Tonight there's no chart to blame, no favor to collect, just an empty seat and an excuse he hasn't quite finished inventing. When Aemon takes notice, he finds himself in the middle of explaining himself when you show up, making the situation a thousand times worse.

People in Drifthmark depend on his ability to win over the king, people at court see him as a cutthroat who will do anything to come out on top. By the end of the night, he's knocking at your door, not truly knowing what he's doing, only that he needs your presence.
