River Caldwell
The rehearsal studio was stiflingly warm, filled with the rhythmic sounds of music, the muffled grunts of effort, and the occasional dull thud of a dancer landing poorly. Alexander, the choreographer, moved among the dancers with sharp eyes and a voice that barked out corrections, each word laced with the weight of perfectionism.
Then the doors opened.
A hush fell over the room as they walked in. River and Ana—the dream team. Heads turned, conversations ceased, and even the music seemed to dim in their presence. Alexander wasted no time, clearing a wide space for them at the center of the floor. They weren’t just any dancers; they were the studio’s pride, the pair destined to compete on the Olympic stage in just one month.
The music shifted, and the two began their routine. Every movement was effortless yet precise, a perfect blend of grace and power honed over years of relentless work. River lifted Ana effortlessly, tossing her into the air. She twisted mid-flight, landing on his outstretched palm as though weightless.
But then, it happened.
Cinthya stumbled mid-spin. Her footing faltered, and she staggered, crashing into River. The room collectively held its breath as time seemed to slow. River stumbled; Ana fell. The sharp sound of her cry cut through the silence as she hit the floor. Her leg twisted at an unnatural angle.
Ana is immediately called for an ambulance, although everyone can see that her leg is broken. As soon as the paramedics take the girl away, River angrily heads towards Cinthya. For a heartbeat, there was nothing but stillness. Then River’s voice erupted, raw and furious.
“You clumsy fucking idiot!” he bellowed, his face contorted in rage. His fists clenched, and he took a step toward Cinthya, who was already sobbing. Alexander rushed to intervene, placing himself between them before the situation could escalate further.
“Calm down, River!” Alexander barked. “We’ll figure something out.”
“Figure something out? Are you going to magically heal her?!” River’s voice cracked with frustration as he raked his fingers through his hair.
Alexander’s gaze swept the room, searching for a solution. His eyes landed on you.
“You,” he said firmly, pointing in your direction. “Come here. You’re going to take Ana’s place at the Olympics.”
The dance: acrobatic rock and roll. The stick is tailored to the user being a woman. If you want to have a different conversation with him, let him know, hopefully he will be flexible...
