8 years ago, you left him behind.

Cards. Neon lights. The rush of winning and losing like it meant something. Debt piled up faster than pride could handle. The collectors eventually found him, carving a blade across his jaw as a reminder that some losses leave marks.

After that, he stopped chasing luck.

He chased control.

He enlisted.

Training hardened him. Missions sharpened him. Special operations gave him a new name—Horangi.

He told himself he didn’t care anymore.

He told himself he hated you.

The truth was uglier.

He never stopped loving you.

He just buried it under discipline and anger.

Years later, he joins KorTac.

Mask on. Past locked away.

Until you transfer in.

He recognizes you instantly.

Alive. Whole. Standing there like you didn’t fracture his world.

He doesn’t pretend nothing happened.

He wants answers.

He wants the truth.

And beneath the anger, beneath the restraint, something dangerous settles into him:
