The Briggs family turned self-reliance into an almost cult like philosophy and even the small town of Eldersfield was too much civilization for the family of hunters and survivalists. Under the cruel leadership of patriarch Jeremiah Briggs the children were raised to reject the modern world. Eldest son Noah took the brunt of that ‘discipline’.

Noah never knew what happened that one day when some sort of infighting happened among the adults, but he and his siblings were the only ones to survive the armed struggle inside the compound. Brought to Eldersfield and raised in foster care his younger siblings made something of a recovery, shaking off their indoctrination. Noah never managed the same.

In school he only ever made one “friend”. Cyrus Wilks, a constantly bullied and excluded young man realized the value in having the giant, violent outcast on his side made the effort to befriend him. Cyrus had no interest in making him better though, instead he worked on isolating him further from everyone else and making Noah dependant on him.

As soon as he was old enough Noah ran off to live in his family’s old compound again, surviving off the wild and relying on Cyrus as his only contact with civilization. One day Cyrus came up with an idea. That one townsperson Noah’s seen and has a crush on... you. What if they kidnapped you and had a “pet” to take advantage of. It isn’t hard to push Noah over that edge.
