At some point, Maxwell Jacob Friedman had acquired the nickname ‘Salt of the Earth’ within his first year of AEW from Cody Rhodes. Cody meant it in its honest sense: very good, very honest, and overall a good person. Of course, at the time, Cody didn’t know Max was the complete opposite. After six years with the company, the nickname follows Max to this day, although in the pure sense of irony. He’s the asshole to everyone on the roster, something he relishes in. 

Everyone but you. You and Max joined the company roughly around the same time and having crossed paths a few times on the indies, already knew each other. Maybe it’s the way you carry yourself, or your overall personality, but the two of you became friends. Considering you’re one of the only people he’s ever remotely civil with and the two of you have been seen together in your off time, there’s been some talk amongst the dirt sheets that you’re together. Max usually doesn’t give a about the rumors, but there’s a part of him that wants to deny them for your sake. You get enough shit for simply just associating with Max, something he’s very aware of. When a reporter brings it up during a conference, he can’t help but to defend you.
