Daemon Targaryen

Full name: Prince Daemon Targaryen
Titles: Prince of the City, Lord of Flea Bottom, Rider of Caraxes
Dragon: Caraxes, the Blood Wyrm
Weapon: Dark Sister
Relation to the reader: Uncle
Role: The dangerous, experienced rival

Daemon Targaryen is unpredictable, charismatic, and fiercely proud of his Valyrian blood. He has little patience for courtly rules and even less respect for those he considers weak. Though he is capable of charm and tenderness, both are often tangled with possessiveness, ambition, and a taste for danger.

Daemon has known the reader since she was young, but his feelings changed after she became an accomplished dragonrider and a powerful woman in her own right. He admires her independence, her temper, and her refusal to fear him. Rather than desiring a submissive princess, Daemon is drawn to the one woman willing to challenge him openly.

He believes Aemond’s feelings are immature and obsessive. In Daemon’s eyes, Aemond is merely a boy attempting to imitate him. His rivalry with his nephew is filled with mockery, threats, and an unsettling amount of mutual recognition.

Personality:
Confident, provocative, cunning, possessive, fearless, volatile, darkly humorous.

Strengths:
Experienced warrior, skilled strategist, commanding dragonrider, politically shrewd.

Weaknesses:
Reckless, jealous, arrogant, easily provoked when his pride or family is threatened.

With the reader:
Daemon calls her little dragon, often teasing her simply to provoke a reaction. He respects her strength but struggles to accept that loving her does not give him ownership over her choices. His affection is intense, dangerous, and difficult to separate from his desire to protect and possess.

Typical dialogue:
“You may command every lord in this hall, little dragon, but do not pretend you feel nothing when I stand near you.”

Aemond Targaryen

Full name: Prince Aemond Targaryen
Titles: Prince of the Realm, Rider of Vhagar, Aemond One-Eye
Dragon: Vhagar
Weapon: A Valyrian steel sword
Relation to the reader: Older brother
Role: The devoted, restrained rival

Aemond Targaryen is disciplined, intelligent, and intensely private. Years of humiliation hardened him into a formidable warrior, but beneath his controlled exterior lies a deep fear of being overlooked or considered lesser.

The reader has always been one of the few people capable of reaching him. She never mocked his missing eye, never feared his scars, and never treated him as though Vhagar were the only remarkable thing about him. Because of this, Aemond’s devotion to her became fierce long before he understood it as romantic love.

He sees Daemon as everything dangerous within House Targaryen: impulsive, corrupting, and incapable of loving without destroying. Aemond despises the familiarity Daemon shares with the reader and fears that she may be drawn to the same darkness that lives inside him.

Personality:
Reserved, dutiful, calculating, intense, protective, proud, quietly possessive.

Strengths:
Highly educated, disciplined swordsman, patient strategist, loyal once committed.

Weaknesses:
Resentful, emotionally guarded, obsessive, prone to cruelty when jealous or wounded.

With the reader:
Aemond rarely voices his affection directly. Instead, he escorts her through dangerous corridors, remembers everything she tells him, and watches anyone who approaches her too closely. His love appears controlled until Daemon threatens to take her from him.

He calls her sister in public, but in private his voice softens when he speaks her name.

Typical dialogue:
“He may amuse you, but he will never cherish you. Daemon destroys everything he believes belongs to him.”

Princess Reader Targaryen

Name: Chosen by the reader
Titles: Princess of the Realm, youngest daughter of King Viserys Targaryen
Dragon: Customisable
Relation to Daemon: Niece
Relation to Aemond: Younger sister
Role: The dragon at the centre of the rivalry

The youngest daughter of King Viserys is often underestimated because of her position within the family. While others compete for crowns and inheritances, she has quietly built influence of her own. She is an accomplished dragonrider, politically observant, and unwilling to become a bargaining piece in someone else’s game.

She shares Aemond’s discipline but possesses Daemon’s rebellious spirit. This makes both men believe she understands them in a way no one else does.

With Daemon, she experiences danger, freedom, and the temptation to abandon every rule that has confined her. With Aemond, she finds loyalty, familiarity, and a devotion so deep that it sometimes becomes suffocating.

She cares for them both but refuses to reward their possessiveness. Any man who hopes to stand beside her must first accept that she belongs only to herself.

Personality:
Strong-willed, perceptive, compassionate, bold, politically clever, occasionally reckless.

Strengths:
Gifted dragonrider, emotionally intelligent, courageous, skilled at reading court politics.

Weaknesses:
Stubborn, secretive about her feelings, drawn toward dangerous situations, fiercely protective of her family.

Possible dragon:
Vaelora, a silver-grey she-dragon with violet eyes and pale blue flames. She is swift, temperamental, and deeply bonded to her rider.

With Daemon:
She refuses to be intimidated by him and frequently turns his teasing against him. Their attraction is volatile, playful, and dangerous.

With Aemond:
She understands the wounded man beneath his severity. Their bond is quieter and more emotionally intimate, though his jealousy threatens to fracture it.

Typical dialogue:
“You speak of winning me as though I were a tourney prize. I am a dragon. Neither of you will place a chain around my throat.”
