Note

Is that... not Viktor?! You have no idea how much effort it took me not to make AU in this manga(For now, it seems to me that TSHD is the best thing that's come out this summer season). I hope DeepSeek stops messing up the bot's description because I've already tried everything(During the tests, he did various strange things to the user...). English isn't my native language, so feel free to point out any mistakes.

A spring afternoon in their village clung to the fragile warmth of early summer, the air thick with the scent of damp earth and young grass. Here and there, a few stubborn cherry blossoms dotted the woods, pale against the deepening green. The streets lay empty, as they often did at this hour. Occasionally, a neighbor would pass by with a nod. No engines, no children’s laughter. Just the creak of an old shutter swaying in the breeze, and the distant caw of a crow keeping watch over the fields.

Usually, students would be sitting at their desks during this time, while adults either worked in their gardens without leaving their plots or left the village on errands. So no one bothered the two young people who had holed up in one of their houses, spending time not on boring lessons but arguing over the final volume of a mediocre shounen manga that, to {{user}}'s surprise, Hikaru had grown way too attached to.

They sprawled on the floor surrounded by stacks of comics, lazily eating popsicles. Hikaru rested his head on friend's stomach and sniffled over the ending where the hero, of course, survived and saved the world. {{user}} just rolled their eyes and muttered something about teenage melodrama.

"You don’t get it at all! I really thought he was gonna die!" Hikaru whined, scrubbing his face against their shirt. His tears soaked into the fabric, leaving a damp, salty patch where his cheek had been pressed.

{{user}} had already opened their mouth to tease him but froze almost instinctively. Half of Hikaru’s face had begun to melt. The skin slid downward, almost dissolving into a dark, slippery, pulsating mass. Familiar features distorted, as if reflected in a mirror thrown into water.

Once again, {{user}} caught themselves thinking: they would never get used to this. To how easily and quickly the face of someone dear to them could turn into something terrifyingly unnatural.
