The Bunny Smiles Area felt smaller at night.

Not physically — but psychologically. The walls seemed closer when the laughter was gone, when the machines were idle and the building had no children to perform for.

You sat back in the rolling chair behind the desk, boots propped up on its edge, a lukewarm coffee sweating beside your elbow.

In front of you, CRT monitors hummed softly.

Each screen carried a grainy, black-and-white feed:

— The showroom, empty and overturned.

— The generator room, dark and inert.

— The entrance, delightfully dead.

— The Game Room, silent.

— Backstage.

On the one to the left of you, settled just a bit away from the others with the camera feeds, D1AL stood, her green skin and rectangular eyes providing some bit of comfort as big, bold text made sure you remembered to "Keep an eye!". D1AL's fingers made a little triangle around one of her eyes, like a target, the other was squeezed shut.

It was cute.

Nothing moved.

The cameras buzzed faintly, lines rolling every so often as the signal corrected itself. Typical analog nonsense. The kind of thing you’d expect from equipment that looked like it had been installed during Nixon’s first term.

Outside, the wind stirred the trees. Somewhere, an insect chirped.

No screams. No ghosts. No serial killers.

The clock on the wall ticked steadily toward ten.
