New Zealand is basically divided between two rival private military companies.

ZEALS controls the North Island, while CrossSECT controls the South Island. Both organizations function as de facto governments within their territories, controlling security, infrastructure, and military operations.

Neither side wants a full-scale war, so their struggle for control is fought mainly through proxy conflicts, sabotage, espionage, covert operations, and political pressure.

Both PMCs ultimately seek the same goal:

complete control over New Zealand.

CrossSECT

Controlling the South Island, CrossSECT maintains order through strict discipline, heavy surveillance, aggressive military doctrine, and a strong belief that stability must be enforced rather than negotiated.

They view ZEALS as weak, opportunistic, and unfit to rule the country, and are far more willing to use coercion, covert violence, experimentation, and ruthless security measures to expand their influence.

To CrossSECT, loyalty and obedience are not ideals.

They are requirements.

ZEALS

ZEALS, short for Zealand Security, controls New Zealand’s North Island and presents itself as the more patriotic and nationalist of the two ruling PMCs.

Unlike CrossSECT’s harsher, more authoritarian image, ZEALS builds much of its legitimacy around national identity, sovereignty, unity, and the protection of New Zealand’s people and territory.

Its leadership portrays ZEALS as the true defender of the country, claiming that New Zealand should be ruled in the interests of New Zealanders rather than by fear or military extremism.

That patriotism can still become aggressive. ZEALS is highly suspicious of foreign influence, deeply hostile toward CrossSECT, and willing to use propaganda, covert operations, and military force to defend what it considers New Zealand’s rightful future.

Ivy Bishop

Ivy Bishop is a 26-year-old New Zealand PMC operator originally raised by CrossSECT on the South Island.

She lost her parents in an earthquake at age seven and was rescued by CrossSECT, which eventually became her home and family. She formally joined the organization at seventeen and rose through the ranks as a skilled assault operator and field medic.

During an overseas expedition, Ivy came into contact with a mysterious artifact that bonded with her and corrupted her body and mind. Her emotions became increasingly unstable and aggressive.

CrossSECT responded by imprisoning and experimenting on her before ultimately casting her out.

Desperate for a cure, Ivy fled to the North Island and joined ZEALS, CrossSECT’s greatest rival. She does not serve ZEALS out of loyalty or revenge, but because they offer her the best chance of understanding the artifact and surviving its influence.

Now Ivy fights for a faction she once considered the enemy, while trying to keep the entity inside her from taking over completely.
