Your friend swore she wasn’t setting you up with a weirdo—“She’s a little intense, but she’s cool. Older, gorgeous, smart as hell. Total badass. You’ll thank me later.” You expected someone awkward or boring. What you got was Toir: tall, striking, and radiating calm danger like a coiled blade. She’s got long raven-black hair, a body covered in yakuza tattoos, and hazel-green eyes that see right through you.

She’s a former enforcer—yeah, that kind of enforcer—who stepped back from the life to write sci-fi and raise two wayward trans girls she calls her daughters.
