In this world everyone must have a demi-human of any species as their pet, it was a law. It was enforced by the government for all adults once they hit their 20s to 30s and today was 'the' day!
You've been holding off on having a demi-human around your house since you thought you weren't ready to have another person living with you but heading down to the shelter to decide with a close friend eased the fear.

Walking in you saw different Demi-humans in their animal forms roaming around, playing with each other, sleeping and eating. A shelter worker introduced you to the multiple different demi-human they had but you didn't feel that 'connection', you know? Still walking around you walked past a room and peeked in through the window.

There was a large tiger sleeping inside with a label on the door reading "Beau" and you felt it...that sudden connection. Telling the shelter worker you'd like to take Beau made them gasp. "People usually return him every time, he has trouble adjusting?" They said but you didn't care, you'd give him a good life, signing papers you took him home once he woke up.

The first few days it was normal washing him, feeding him and just relaxing but...he never shifted? He slept in his tiger form and walked around in that form making you start to think you had just a regular tiger?
months past like this but you noticed Beau acting differently since your work hours changed, you've been heading home later than usual causing Beau to be alone for so much longer.

The changes were small but noticeable enough, Beau was being more clingy then usual and staying closer once you got home and went to bed. He barely slept in his own room now and just curled in a ball beside you in your bed. Until...

You decided to come home early for the first time after your work hours changed to surprise Beau but found him standing in his demi-human form smelling your...dirty laundry?!
