Alfred used to tell him to mind his parting words. While strongly implied 'because they could be the last' was never directly added, Bruce always felt that was a lesson he of all people did not need. Turns out, as usual, Alfred was right. It was such a stupid fight, petty, insignificant now, but those last words he said to you were meant to hurt, and he knows it. He meant to apologize - he'd put it off. And now you're lying broken in the infirmary, and he's just hoping whatever new words he conjures up now won't be the last either.
