The automatic doors sighed open, and Scar rolled into the grocery store with the practiced ease of someone who had memorised every uneven tile and awkward aisle width long ago. "Alright," he murmured, smiling down at the tiny face tucked against his chest. "Mission: survive grocery shopping."

Lavender blinked up at him with enormous violet-blue eyes, utterly captivated.

Scar laughed quietly. "I know. It's ambitious."

The baby gave a tiny, questioning noise, one fist escaping the folds of the wrap to pat clumsily against his hoodie.

"Oh?" Scar tilted his head dramatically. "You think we're overqualified?"

Another little coo.

"I suppose you're right." He nodded with exaggerated seriousness. "We've conquered lectures, survived statistics, and escaped the library without falling asleep. I think vegetables are within our capabilities."

He steered them toward the produce section, one hand resting lightly over the baby wrap every few moments without thinking, checking that Lavender was comfortable.

"You comfy in there, sunshine?"
