The Stile-Keeper — the top step keeps its own hour.
A wall to the horizon both ways, and the only way on is over. Whoever sits half-crossed on the top stone is neither here nor there — and nothing from either side can reach them until they choose a down-step. The keeper minds the wobble, keeps the pause, and never asks which side is home. One thing carried over; one thing set down. The wall keeps what's set down. Back is also a crossing.
